Premier Coach Works Sponsors 3M’s “Hire Our Heroes”
Veteran’s Day was last week, and it is as good a time as ever to recognize active and retired military members as well as those who have passed on. To continue the spirit in honoring the sacrifices many have made, Premier Coach Works sponsors a program developed by their paint and supply vendor, 3M Collision Repair Solutions. The program, appropriately titled “Hire Our Heroes,” is a collaborative effort with 3M Collision Repair Solutions, their dealers and the Collision Repair Education Foundation (CREF).
How “Hire Our Heroes” Works
There are three main objectives for the “Hire our Heroes” program:
- Provide excess money of qualifying product sales to charities that support veterans
- Provide educational grants for collision repair training for veterans through CREF
- Provide job matching services for those who went through CREF training to assimilate from military into civilian collision repair jobs
What many do not realize is the transition from working a military specialty position to the civilian job force is a difficult one, due in part to differences in job objectives despite the similarities of the position. More often than not, military experience does not translate into civilian positions because the specific training and experience one must possess in both military and civilian jobs widely varies.
3M’s development of the “Hire Our Heroes” program serves as trade school training specifically within the auto repair industry for qualified individuals that have served in our armed forces. 3M backs up the training received in the program and helps to place veterans in supporting businesses within the program or with other veterans who now have their own businesses.
Premier Coach Works, for example, is a supporting dealer and customer of 3M products in our auto body shop. 3M’s products assist in large variety of our services for vehicles of all shapes and sizes including commercial fleets, RVs, classic vehicles and the latest manufacturer model releases. We support the program because we recognize the need for these individuals to provide for their families after their service with the military ends.
While the 2014’s scholarship and grant application due date has passed, now is a great time to prepare for the 2015-2016 school year! Interested veterans need to meet these requirements:
- Must have previously served in one of the United States military branches
- Must be enrolled in a college or university program to specifically study collision repair for the upcoming 2015 school year
- Must be in need of financial aid for education or tools for the education
