RV Tire Blowout Causes

The main cause of RV blowouts is under-inflated tires. Yet three other factors can also come into play, including:

  • Overloaded RV. If you’re RV is over capacity (in terms of either total weight or total passengers), or you’re towing a car, the resulting weight can cause one or multiple tire blowouts.
  • Road condition / road debris. Potholes, chucks of concrete from road construction, branches – roads present significant hazards for RVs, and traveling over road debris or potholes is one of the most common ways your RV tire can blowout.
  • Old tires. Even if your tires look good on the outside, that doesn’t mean everything’s OK on the inside. Dry rot can be hard to spot on the surface of your RV tires. Old tires can also show worn treads, uneven wear and sidewall damage. Always check your tire pressure, condition and tread before heading out on your next road trip.
