Kid-Friendly Road Trip Ideas

Road trips are a great American tradition. In fact, considering the great wagons that led so many Americans out West, you might say that it is one of the country’s oldest traditions. Traveling to new places is a great part of life in this country, because there are so many places to go. One of the best ways to experience this is with children. The following is a look at some of the best kid-friendly road trip ideas:

Kid-Friendly Road Trip Ideas

  • Utah’s Scenic Byway Highway 12. Also known as “A Journey Through Time Scenic Byway,” this fantastic 122-mile route goes by an incredible amount of state parks and stunning landscapes. It also happens to be relatively close to our own state. On this route, you can stop at Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef national parks, Anasazi State Park, and the Escalante Petrified Forest. There are plenty of state and federal campgrounds, as well as private campgrounds and campsites to choose from.
  • Miami To the Florida Keys. This one is far away from us, but it is a road trip we recommend everyone try once. If you don’t want to drive all that way, you can fly into Miami and rent an RV or other large vehicle for the trip. This trip is the best for those families and kids who love water activities. Fishing, swimming, boating, snorkeling, and diving are all popular activities in the Florida Keys that can be readily had. Just make sure to plan your trip in advance, as campsites do get booked up and first-come first-serve locations are rare.
  • San Juan Skyway. The San Juan Skyway in Colorado is a great choice for families who like more traditional camping backdrops. Down this 230-mile route, road trippers will find hundreds of lakes, forests, and mountain peaks to explore and wear out antsy youngsters upon.
