Memberships for Low-Cost Camping & Unexpected RV Repairs

Living on the road is exciting and beautiful, but it can also get expensive for those who don’t properly prepare for it. The expenses of the RV lifestyle often catch newcomers by surprise, but the truth is that unless you are boondocking or have other means of free parking, the cost of living in an RV can often be just as comparable to living in a traditional home in any mid-sized city or town. Some even find this type of lifestyle more expensive once they calculate total gas, campsite cost, full-timer insurance, funds for RV repairs and preventative maintenance, and more. The good news is there are some great memberships that can help offset costs and protect you in the event of an on-the-road breakdown. The following is a look at some of our favorites:

Must-Have Memberships for Low-Cost Camping and Unexpected RV Repairs

  • Passport America. Passport America is hands down, the very best RV campground program and every RVer, full-time and part-time, should join. This is because with just a $44/year cost, members can enjoy up to 50% off of camping fees across 2,000 campgrounds. This means you’ll earn your fee back in often as little as two nights and enjoy big cost cuts for the rest of the year.
  • Harvests Hosts. This is a unique type of RV membership that is ideal for those who enjoy dry camping (which is to say, self-contained RV camping). Here, members pay an annual fee of $79 in exchange for one ‘free’ night of camping at over 500 locations. What’s unique, is those locations aren’t your typical campground locales, but rather select farms, breweries, wineries, vineyards, and similar private-but-beautiful locales. The one catch here is that while there are not traditional camping costs, the membership is about visiting and supporting communities and thus its suggested for campers to purchase at least one $15-20 product from their host.
  • Good Sam Roadside Assistance. Available for under $150/year, this roadside assistance program is a must-have regardless of what shape your RV is in. That’s because accidents, flat tires, and engine mishaps can happen to anyone, anywhere, but with a roadside assistance plan, you won’t have to worry about exorbitant towing fees and can instead focus on RV repairs to get you back on the road.
